The 2017 Buchanan Lecturer is Professor Jonathan Bray, PhD., P.E., NAE, Faculty Chair of Earthquake Engineering Excellence at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Bray’s lecture is entitled “Turning Disaster into Knowledge.” 

Also on the agenda is Professor Thomas D. O’Rourke PhD, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, who will be presenting his 2016 Terzaghi Lecture "Ground Deformation Effects on Subsurface Pipelines & Infrastructure." Professor O’Rourke is the Thomas R. Briggs Professor of Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University.

This year the Buchanan Lecture will be sponsored by Fugro Consultants, Inc.

The lectures will take place at the Brazos Amphitheater in the College Station Hilton, and will begin at 2:00 pm on October 13, 2017. The lectures will be followed by a reception at the home of Janet and Jean-Louis Briaud.
